  • No Greater Love…

    March 19th, 2024 | Easter Messages

No one has greater love than this —that one lays down his life for his friends. John 15:13 There is no better time than Easter to reflect on love. Better than Valentine’s Day, better than anniversaries or weddings or baby showers. There is nothing that gives us hope or meaning or rescue like the love…

    March 19th, 2024 | 40 Stories

Meet Maria Espinoza.  Maria tells the story we love to remind people.  It is the consistency of being present, showing up at all stages of life, equipping and envision futures that becomes the transformational influence of Neighborhood Ministries.  The beauty of Maria’s story is that we can remember her at all these different stages and…

  • Why We Go to Court

    March 12th, 2024 | Neighborhood Spiritual Development

Yesterday, I was on the phone with a young adult (age 36) who is in prison. He is four years away from completing a twenty-two-year sentence. He is repentant and reflective, and for the first time since this long incarceration began, he is seeking God’s help. His heart was hard for so long, and his…

    January 19th, 2024 | 40 Stories

Meet Daisy Fernandez.  Her story reminds us that the simple act of an invitation opens up the possibilities of a life transformed. Each person she names in this testimonial was someone who showed up for her, at a particular time in her life, inviting her into the space that changed her. Her neighbor’s invite, Nadine’s invite, Googoos’…

    December 3rd, 2023 | Christmas Messages

The precious gift of the holidays are before us. Thanksgiving, Christmas and all the holy moments in between and after. We love this time of year and we choose gratitude. • Irene – 40 Stories

    October 3rd, 2023 | 40 Stories

Meet Irene Tomas.  The old neighborhood only exists in our memories. Gentrification and urban renewal have transformed broken-down houses and abandoned streets into trendy coffee shops and high-rise apartments. When I listen to Irene, there I am, there she is, and hundreds of others in the old days, in those old streets and alleys. We can all…

  • I Spy Something GOod – How did we spy out God this summer?

    September 4th, 2023 | Newsletters

It is the end of the summer and summer programs here at Neighborhood Ministries, and we are filled with reflections. We don’t often do this, but this year we put our reflections – our God Encounters – into a booklet. Each summer has a theme, this year’s theme was seeing God at work — naming…

Meet Adrian.  Adrian lets us know what keeps him feeling grounded … it is the memory of the love and sacrifice of others who poured into his life. It is now his turn to “give back”, to make a difference in other young people’s lives, in the way Bryan and others invested in him. Can…

  • Tell Them What You Know

    April 20th, 2023 | Mother's Day Messages

“Tell Them What You Know” Neighborhood Ministries is a story-telling community. We have been privileged to have the front seat to overcomers, ordinary people who live extra-ordinary lives. Mother’s Day is a perfect time to tell the story of an extra-ordinary mom. Patty Reel is that mom. She lost her battle with brain cancer, just…

  • God our rescuer, redeemer and deliverer

    March 21st, 2023 | Easter Messages

Traditionally at Easter, during our church services and celebrations of the day, we have baptisms. It’s the kind of baptism where people bring testimony to their changed life, written down, and come prepared to go under the water in identification with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. It’s always a joyful part of our day. We…

  • Francisco – 40 Stories

    March 6th, 2023 | 40 Stories

Meet Francisco.  When Francisco says, “you believed in me, even before I could believe in myself”, I thought “that’s what it’s all about, here”. We depend on the Lord to give us a future glimpse of what is to come with a young person. How will they grow into their gifts and talents? Who will…

  • Adolfo & Felipa – 40 Stories

    November 9th, 2022 | 40 Stories

Meet Felipa Torres and her son Adolfo.  The term “resiliency” isn’t adequate to describe Felipa’s journey which we have been privileged to bear witness to.  Resiliency wrapped up in her faith, her focus, her undying spirit of service and leadership … maybe that’s better!  One thing is for certain, she becomes a representative of the…
